Gio Ponti Ultraleggera Chairs

About the Item

Gio Ponti designed this chair in the 1950s, commissioned by Cassina, a company that has been producing it continuously ever since. Fifty-seven years after its commercialisation, it is perhaps the architect's best-known work. Its most characteristic feature is a structure of ash wood (extraordinarily resistant and flexible, of such high quality that it was traditionally used to make spears) at the limit of its strength, which gives it a stylised, almost fragile, elegant, sober appearance.
