About the Item

Marvelous vintage Chinoiserie Broyhill Ming style yoke back dining or side armchair with an ebony-colored frame & original white textured meander fabric. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, this chair has a perfectly imperfect intended patina with no outstanding flaws detected. There is one small stain on the original upholstery after professional cleaning. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 20th Century. Now THIS chair knows how to PARTY!!! Seriously!! That’s what its tag says… Broyhill Party Chair… So… Let’s PARTY folks!!! This is an incredible single armchair by Broyhill comprised of a beautiful ebony black painted wood frame featuring a lovely hourglass shaped center back splat with natural walnut toned burlwood inlay, curved arms, straight, square legs with side stretchers, a wonderful yoke back top rail, and it wears its ORIGINAL (and quite extraordinary!) white poly/rayon fabric with textured meander details under its apron!! You can see the beautiful brown tone from the wood grain on the chair peeking through the ebony frame in places… it’s STUNNING!!! You know… it seems like every time you see a great chair is when it's in a SET or with a GROUP… but you only need ONE! Well Today is YOUR lucky day!!! THIS is the ONE!!! And this one versatile enough to go just about anywhere! Whether in a closet or dressing area, a corner of your bedroom, an accent or side chair in your sitting room, at the entry for a chic spot to remove your shoes, or that “only mine” chair at the dinner table. Let me tell you… this is the one you’ve been looking for!! Broyhill Furniture was founded by 27-year-old James Edgar Broyhill in 1926. Edgar or Ed had worked for his older brother’s furniture company as a salesman, bookkeeper, and clerk since 1919. It is a story of true American entrepreneurship. Starting simply producing single pieces of furniture, they soon grew into a huge well-known and well-respected furniture manufacturer. Ed together with his brothers merged and purchased smaller entities to do so. The company flourished till the depression as did most furniture makers and refitted and remade themselves during WWII to stay in business. After the war with the American economy booming, they expanded further. During the mid-20th century introducing beautiful and extraordinarily successful modern lines. Still flourishing and expanding during the 1970s until in 1980 they turned the tables and sold the company to St. Louis based Interco, Inc. who had also purchased Ethan Allen and Lane. By 1991 Interco had overextended and sought bankruptcy protection. Then climbing out of their slump by the early 2000’s Interco transitioned into their newest incarnation, Furniture Brand International, which remains one of the largest manufacturers of furniture today. Quality manufacturer, versatility, and a striking style that you can only find in a Broyhill furniture piece. This side chair is just too exquisite to let go! So don’t let that happen!
