Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in Modena, Italy, and studied architecture in Florence before moving to São Paulo, where he opened the design studio that would launch his career, Atelier Scapinelli. Although he worked with ceramics, painting, and sculpture, it wasn't until the early 50s that he began drawing furniture. Scapinelli's singular sculptural style made him one of the most expressive names of Brazil's mid-century design, and his creations remain highly sought after today.
