About the Item

Ora Ito, Frassino Tinto Nero Ico Chair For Cassina The Ico design chair is a clear tribute by designer Ora ïto to the history of Cassina, and especially to the 814 chair designed by architect Ico Parisi in 1950. Versatile and dynamic, its silhouette is immediately recognizable. The aesthetic elegance and comfort of the Ico design chair are fundamental design elements, as emphasized by the pairing of the curved wood to the meticulously tailored upholstery. Part of the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Ico is Cassina’s most complex chair and exemplifies the company’s excellence in the field of carpentry and quality manufacturing, the best of what the Meda area north of Milan can supply. This contemporary design, the outcome of technological innovation backed by fine artisanal skills, starts from a structure in solid ash wood, shaped by state-of-the-art CNC machinery, and then finished by hand by seasoned craftsmen. Among the details worthy of note: the all-wood joints, typical of all Cassina’s products, and the stitching that fulfils both a technical and an aesthetic function. The timeless design of this extremely comfortable chair makes it an ideal choice both in the home and in a contract environment. A phenomenon in pop culture, he is the youngest designer of his generation to collaborate with various brands of the luxury sector. The multidisciplinary, transversal Ora ïto studio has since gone from telephone to architecture, from furniture to the hotel industry, from perfume to tramways and from flying saucers to restaurants, manipulating symbols to simplify them. A tenacious methodology for which he has invented a neologism: ‘simplexity,’ decoding today’s DNA to conceptualise future mutations. His fluid vocabulary materialises movement reinventing streamlining in the digital era and giving shape to the desires of our contemporary society. In 2013, he created MAMO, an art centre on the roof terrace of the mythical Cité Radieuse designed by Le Corbusier in Marseille. About the manufacturer: Established in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, Italy, Cassina launched industrial design in Italy in the 1950s, based on a totally innovative approach that marked the transition from artisan production to mass production. With a mindset focused on research and innovation, Cassina combines technology and long-standing artisan craftsmanship. Memory, research, innovation. Cassina blends traditional skills and superior productivity, meticulous attention to detail and passion, uniqueness and experimentation, wellbeing and sustainability. Today, the company continues to address new lifestyles with the creation of complete, harmonious interior decor solutions that embody the best contemporary design for all areas of the home.

Vico Magistretti 905 Armchair by Cassina
By Vico Magistretti, Cassina
Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Armchair model 905 designed by Vico Magistretti in 1964. Manufactured by Cassina in Italy. A modern chair with a cultural heritage, expression of the creative genius of Vico Magistretti who designed it in 1964. 905 is an elegant chair made of solid wood and cowhide, where design translates to practical simplicity. Produced by Cassina until 2000, this chair has now been relaunched, the finishes and details having been updated from the original archive model. The sophisticated elegance of the frame, which features cylindrical legs and curved arm-rests, has been rejuvenated thanks to Cassina’s extensive experience in handling leather, not to mention the company’s high quality carpentry skills. The complex nature of this piece is expressed in a design that looks simple but fully reflects the genius quality of the original concept, a veritable masterpiece of the crafts tradition proper to Meda, in the Brianza area north of Milan, the trademark registered by Cassina and a guarantee of utmost quality. The frame, in finest quality wood, bespeaks the perfect combination of the artisanal tradition and premier CNC technology, while the overall design stands out for the self-supporting seat crafted from one single piece of saddle leather, curved and slotted into the frame. The decorative stitching has been discontinued, while the rear of the chair still features the leather belt that lends support to the back and enhances its comfort quotient. The 905 chair...
