The table is the last adding to the collection Una (Articolo Indeterminativo) by Stefano Marolla. The name of the collection comes from the Italian grammar where the in determinative article precedes a non-identified noun. The objects play on the ambiguity of the matter than can deceive the eye: a sturdy element like wood, hand-curved and levigated, looks like a light tapestry. The curves and the soft drapery of the wood are inspired by a long and attentive study on the usage of drapery in art’s history, going back from the ancient Greece to Bernini’s sculptures...

STACKABL is a configurator that allows anyone to customize furniture online, an innovative system that allows you to turn high-quality, surplus metal, wood, and felt offcuts from our manufacturing partners – located within a 150-mile-radius – into fully finished, custom works ready to be shipped to your home or project. Aided by algorithms and robotics, the configurator identifies remnant inventory (in the form of metal, wood, and felt) that fits your aesthetic choices. This inventory is then put back through the manufacturers' own machines, and into the hands of their own experts, who execute your design. In the fall of 2020, Maison Gerard paired with STACKABL to show just what can be accomplished with the configurator. Maison Gerard tapped the talents of six prominent designers, asking them to create pieces of their own within STACKABL. Georgis + Mirorodsky's Querelle chair: After an initial attempt to defy the configurator and get around its set limitations, Georgis + Mirorodsky allowed themselves to completely submit to its demands and play along. They discovered that embracing its constraints sparked their imagination in new and unexpected ways, allowing them to overlay unintended meaning onto the object and imbue it with a piece of himself. The nautical stripe effect immediately led his mind to Querelle, the handsome Belgian sailor and queer cinema icon at the center of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 1982 arthouse film.
