About the Item

An ebonised and gilt chaise longue designed by Owen Jones and manufactured by Jackson & Graham. England, London, circa 1870-73. Exceptionally original, untouched and showing no restoration or repair. The chaise has a clear resemblance with designs by Jones commissioned by Alfred Morrison for the interiors and furniture at Eynsham Hall, Oxfordshire, work on the hall was carried out from 1872 to 1874, by the London firm of Jackson & Graham. Examples of this suite of furniture are held in the permanent collection of the V&A. Partially covered in the original woven silk fabric probably designed by Owen Jones in the early 1870s and manufactured by the Spitalfields firm of Warner, Sillett & Ramm. Owen Jones sold a number of designs to the silk manufacturer Benjamin Warner in this period.
