About the Item

Tito Agnoli’s designs are characterized by soft forms interrupted by dystonic pulses—a modernism with a baroque soul, perhaps influenced by the colonial architecture of South America, where Agnoli was born in 1931. Assistant to Gio Ponti and later Carlo De Carli, Agnoli embarked on an intense career in design, collaborating with many companies in the field. The bar was raised with the P3S in 1964: a continuous line that forms the minimal geometry of the chaise longue’s shape, a wicker weave on a metal frame that radically frees Agnoli from any suspicion of orthodoxy with regard to past forms. The P3S chaise longue, designed by Tito Agnoli in 1964 for Pierantonio Bonacina, is an icon of 20th-century Italian design, symbolizing modernity and refined craftsmanship. Design and Materials The P3S stands out for its tubular metal frame, over which rattan cane is hand-woven, creating a continuous and fluid form that challenges the conventions of traditional design. This innovative approach gives the chaise longue a sculptural and dynamic appearance, while maintaining a sober and functional elegance. Editions and Variants Over the years, the P3S has been produced in several editions. The first series, manufactured in the 1960s, is recognizable by its brass details and painted metal frame. Later, in the 1970s, versions with more modern finishes and updated materials were introduced, such as polyester paint and rattan treated for outdoor use.
