About the Item

1950’s Dark Oak Single Bar Bentwood Dining Chair – Small Batch Available. This is an interesting batch of chairs, all from the same location but made both by Luterma and Baumann. The process of steam bending beech to create elegant chairs was discovered and developed by Thonet, but when its patents expired in 1869 many companies including Luterma and Baumann launched production. Luterma was one of the brands marketed by Estonian factory A.M. Luther which was founded in the late 19th Century in Tallinn. Luthers production was principally in Estonia but they also had factories in France for local market production. Baumann was founded in 1901, by Swiss man Emile Baumann, in Colombier Fontaine, France. Baumann started producing a simple child’s chair but grew rapidly to be a large bentwood producer with showrooms all over France. These chairs date from the 1950s, a simple classic shape with a beautiful colour and elegant shaped simple backs. We service and rejuvenate each chair before it leaves our workshop and we deliver chairs of excellent quality. Seat Height 46cm. We hold large stocks of original vintage chairs for private and commercial use. The price listed is for one chair and you can order any quantity subject to the maximum available. Workshop Report: Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
