Antique Set of 14 Chippendale Revival Dining Chairs 20th Century

About the Item

A beautiful antique set of fourteen solid mahogany Chippendale Revival dining chairs, comprising twelve sidechairs and two armchairs, dating from Circa 1910. The chairs have carved cresting rails, pierced back splats, drop in seats and are raised on acanthus carved cabriole front legs terminating in ball and claw feet. They have been crafted from hand carved solid flame mahogany with drop in seats upholstered in a stunning golden damask fabric. The chairs are a rich colour with a striking grain and good patina. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A4279
