About the Item

Børge Morgensen for A/S Fredericia Stolefabrik, armchairs model 'BM 73', oak, wool, Denmark, 1960 Well-proportioned chairs designed by the Danish designer Børge Morgensen. The style of this armchair is characterized by simplified lines, absence of decoration and the use of neutral materials that are in great harmony. The sculpted frame with wood joints proofs the great eye for detail and high-level of craftsmanship this dining chair is exemplary for. A nice addition to this set is the use of beige wool for the upholstery which contributes to the chairs’ natural look. Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) was a Danish designer. His designs are defined by being high-quality, simple and functional. Mogensen can be seen as a democratic and idealistic designer. He aimed to solve basic problems in residential living. This meant that he designed for the middle-class and everyday use instead of for the more exclusive costumer. Contrary to his contemporaries in other countries such as Le Corbusier, Mogensen did not work with new modern materials such as steel and glass. Instead, he chose to work with tested materials such as leather and wood. Being trained by Kaare Klint, he was very focused on the human body and his ideal was to create comfortable furniture, not furniture that would end up in a museum. His designs are therefore honest, functional, simple and production friendly. Mogensen was extremely productive: hundreds of his designs went into production in his lifetime. Kindly note that the fabric is in good, used condition with signs of use, including small stains. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well. The price listed is per chair.
