Mid-Century Set/12 Little Tulip Armchairs by Pierre Paulin for Artifort, 1980s

About the Item

Mid-Century Set/12 Little Tulip Armchairs by Pierre Paulin for Artifort, The Netherlands 1980s The swivel Little Tulip chair, designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in the Netherlands in 1965, is a timeless piece of furniture still beloved today. The chair has a half-open petal design that envelops the sitter, creating a delicate, cheerful, inviting, and cozy atmosphere. The chair is perfect for use at a dining table or meeting room, adding elegance and inspiration to any space—original high-quality black leather upholstery. The Little Tulip is an Artifort classic that remains in good overall condition despite minor traces of use. Pierre Paulin was a Paris-born French designer who created his most famous pieces in collaboration with Artifort, including iconic chairs like the Tongue Chair and Ribbon Chair, both of which are featured in museums such as MOMA in New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris. Jules Wagemans established Artifort as an upholstery business in Maastricht in 1890, which his son, Henricus Wagemans, later expanded into a furniture factory. By the end of the 1920s, the company had a showroom in Amsterdam and was well-known nationally. In the 1930s, the economic recession forced the company, then known as H. Wagemans & Van Tuinen, to create a distinctive profile. They developed a catchy brand name and logo. They focused on creating functional, comfortable, and high-quality furniture, with aesthetically pleasing design and innovative materials—priced for 12 chairs.
