Rainer Daumiller Soaped Pine Armchair – Sculptural Danish Design, 1977
About the Item
A beautiful pair of sculptural soaped pine armchairs by German-born designer Rainer Daumiller, originally crafted in Denmark in 1977 by the renowned Hirtshals Sawmill. These iconic chairs showcase Daumiller’s distinctive organic form language—robust, playful, and grounded in a deep respect for nature and material.
The chairs have been carefully restored in Berlin: the original chipped lacquer was professionally stripped, revealing the richness and depth of the pine, then treated with a natural soap finish that enhances the warm, tactile surface. The result is a clean, honest finish that stays true to the designer’s original vision.
These are authentic vintage pieces in excellent condition, with only subtle imperfections consistent with age and respectful restoration. They are structurally sound and visually striking—ideal for collectors or those looking to add sculptural warmth to a minimalist, Scandinavian, or organic interior.
Availability:
Two chairs available. Price is per chair. They display beautifully as a pair.
Designer Background:
Born in Germany in 1939, Rainer Daumiller trained as a cabinetmaker before moving to Denmark in 1959. Influenced by the philosophies of architect and thinker Rudolf Steiner, Daumiller developed an intuitive design approach—letting the wood guide the form. His furniture celebrates the natural characteristics of timber and embodies a timeless, grounded modernism.
