Set of Eight "Leggera" Dining Chairs by Gio Ponti

A fine set of eight "Leggera" dining chairs by the éminence grise of 20th-century Italian design, the great Milanese architect Gio Ponti. Built of beautifully-figured solid ash and gray leather (and with several of the chairs retaining their early 1950s "Figli di Amedeo Cassina" metal labels) these "Leggera" chairs were designed in 1952, and formed the basis for Ponti's later and more commonly seen "Superleggera" chair design. Slightly more substantial than the newer design, and upholstered in soft Italian leather, these chairs are both elegant and comfortable. The graceful classicism of it's lines and proportions makes the versatile "Leggera" chair at home in rooms -- and around tables -- of a wide variety of styles. The eight chairs in this set are in excellent condition, and were just reupholstered by us in very high-quality gray leather, imported (like the chairs themselves, 67 years earlier) from Italy.
