convertible lounge chair P40 designed by Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno 1954

About the Item

Italian modern TECNO P40 convertible lounge chair designed by Osvaldo Borsani in 1954 beautiful 1960ies edition cognac-brown leather. Second edition of the P40 lounge chair, with height adjustable back rest, manufactured by Tecno, in Italy ca. 1960 - 1970. With makers bedge. This customizable P40 lounge chair has two pivoting wings that can be adjusted in various positions. A knob under the seat and a second on the back rest lock/unlock the pivoting mechanism. By further pressing the brass knobs on the front corners the additional foot rest can be adjusted in three positions, the extension of the foot rest further can be pulled out to rest your feet. the improved second edition of Borsani‘s P40 chair further came up with split and adjustable back rest. The upper back rest part can easily be pulled out which is adding more comfort - especially for customers with average or taller height while the early 1st edition of the P40 would rather suite the body of a small person. The seat and back rest are mounted to a laquered metal base. Characteristic for the P40 is it’s high functionality and it’s beautiful and very unique design. It‘s Italian modernism that found synergy between usability, comfort and design. The beautiful brass details make this convertible lounge chair an outstanding midcentury design icon and is one of Osvaldo Borsani‘s early masterpieces and has had lasting influence on Italian modern design. The P40 lounge chair was first presented at the 10th Triennale Exhibition in Milan in 1954. The highly visible mechanical joint expressed Osvaldo Borsani’s determination to design realizing some of the most-influential furniture in Italian modern design. The chair is in very good vintage condition appropriate to age and wear. The leather shows few signs of wear and had a beautiful patina. All Functions and components have been checked, leather upholstery preserved. If requested we have a video documentation available as well. reupholstery in leather / fabric generally is possible but not included in this offer. Please feel free to get in touch for a quote.
