Early Model Finn Juhl France FD136 Chair for France & Søn in Teak & Sheepskin

About the Item

This chair is absolutely stunning! The France Chair FD136 was designed by Finn Juhl in 1956 and was inspired by his many travels to France. The France chair features a distinctive curved backrest and large curved armrests, which are made from laminated teak wood. The seat and backrest are upholstered in ultra-luxe sheepskin, only making this iconic chair more sumptuous than ever. The France Chair FD136 is considered to be one of Juhl's most iconic designs, and it is highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. The chair's sculptural and organic forms reflect Juhl's unique design style, which was characterized by a balance between functionality and aesthetics. Like many of Juhl's designs, the France Chair FD136 is a testament to his exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship. It remains a timeless piece of furniture that continues to inspire contemporary designers and enthusiasts alike. Finn Juhl (1912-1989) was a Danish architect, interior and industrial designer, and one of the leading figures of the Danish modern movement. He is best known for his furniture designs, which were characterized by their sculptural and organic forms, as well as their innovative use of materials. Juhl studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he later taught furniture design. In 1945, he gained international recognition for his work when his furniture was featured in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Some of Juhl's most iconic designs include the Chieftain Chair, the Pelican Chair, and the Poet Sofa. His designs were often characterized by their use of teak and other exotic woods, as well as their attention to detail and craftsmanship. This chair would look incredible in any mid century modern, modern or contemporary environment. The luxurious sheepskin gives this chair a cozy ski lodge feel. This chair is currently in our gallery alongside a Hans Wegner Papa bear chair, a Vladimir Kagan serpentine sofa in boucle, as well as a Poul Kjærholm coffee table, and not only does this chair make a statement, it steals the show!
