About the Item

Beautiful lounge chairs designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli and manufactured by his own factory Fábrica de Móveis Giesse in Brazil 1950. These lounge chairs have a solid rosewood frame which is almost an art piece on its own. The armrests lay on top of the frame and are rounded with at the front a waterfall-like bend which make them really elegant. The most stunning feature of these chairs is the back which has the appearance of a rib cage. Designed with the highest attention to detail these chairs are attractive from every angle. The chairs are newly upholstered in a rich light grey velvet. Priced and sold in a set of 2. Giuseppi Scapinelli (1891-1982) was a designer, furniture maker and dealer in Sao Paulo. Scapinelli, born in Italy, was a designer who was on top of the zeitgeist. His designs are voluptuous, generous and comfortable. The rounded curves combined with the clean lines of the back hint towards his Italian origins. Unlike some of his famous contemporaries, Scapinelli sank into relative obscurity after passing away in 1982. It took almost 30 years before connoisseurs and collectors got to rediscover him and his fantastic designs: finally, Scapinelli is back where he belongs, among the great masters of Brazilian modern. Luckily Scapinelli left a broad body of work with many different and many beautiful pieces of furniture, only sold in Brazil so very rarely seen in Europe. Like all our upholstered pieces these can also be newly upholstered to your admiration. Ask our experienced upholstery department for an affordable quote for the item you want customised. We only use the best quality fabrics, foam, and materials for all our items. With the reupholstery we will always keep the originality in mind so the piece doesn’t lose its value and will be ready for years of use again.
