Magnus Stephensen Lounge Chair in Dark Stained Beechwood by Fritz Hansen

About the Item

Rare Magnus Stephensen lounge chair in dark stained beechwood by Fritz Hansen in the 1940s. The chair is in good condition with a beautiful patina and ready to be taking in use, the chair is the perfect detail to any interior and fits the typical Scandinavian interior but could also fit a more modern interior or a Wabi Sabi style interior. This chair could work perfectly as a lounge chair by the coffe table or as a reading chair or what else you could imagine it for in your interior. Magnus Læssøe Stephensen (born 12 October 1903 in Holte, died 14 March 1984 in Helsingør) was a Danish architect and designer, educated at the Academy of fine Arts 1924-30; He was the brother of Hakon Stephensen. Magnus Læssøe Stephensen's buildings are characterized by a form-reliable functionalism that is not just an external style, e.g. are his terraced houses for families with children in Husum (1941-1942) and the apartment blocks in Bispeparken (1940-1941) and Dommerparken (1945-47); Like many other buildings in Copenhagen and the surrounding area, they were made in collaboration with Knud Thorball (1904-1980). A study trip to i.a. Japan left its mark on his designs, which include silverware for Kay Bojesen, cutlery for Georg Jensen, frames for The Royal Porcelain Factory and furniture for Fritz Hansen's Eftf. Among other things, The DAN chair from 1931. He received the Eckersberg Medal in 1948. Fritz Hansen A/S is an internationally renowned Danish furniture manufacturer that was founded in 1872 by master carpenter Fritz Hansen (1847-1902). The company is headquartered in Allerød. Fritz Hansen was trained as a joiner and cabinet maker in his hometown of Nakskov and at the age of 25 he went to the capital, where he became a citizen in 1872. The actual furniture production started a few years later in 1885 in Copenhagen and within a few years became a thriving business at Christianshavn in the central part of Copenhagen. In 1896, the business was expanded considerably, as Fritz Hansen acquired a plot of land in Lillerød, where two years later he opened his own sawmill (Lillerød Sawmill). In 1899, Fritz Hansen's son and successor, Christian E. Hansen (1874-1954), took over the company, which then employed 50 people. The founder died in 1902, aged only 55. In 1915, Christian E. Hansen was one of the first to introduce steam-bentwood, which later became classics such as Arne Jacobsen's Myren og Syveren (3107), but which is also included as an element in many other Danish design classics. In the 1920s and 1930s, the company began to move from a Craft business to an industrialized one, and at the same time began experiments with tubular steel furniture following the example of Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Christian E. Hansen acted as a designer himself, i.a. of a series of functionalist oak furniture and of the well-known Canada chair (1940, model FH 2252), but gradually began a collaboration with the designers of the time. Ove Boldt designed the Windsor chair (1942, model FH 1638). Chr. E. Hansen had three sons, two of whom joined the family company in 1928: Poul Fritz Hansen (1902-1987), Søren Christian Hansen (1905-1977). Later, the youngest brother Knud Marius Hansen (1911-?) also joined the family business. The brothers' educations complemented each other well: Fritz was trained as a chair maker, Søren received a business education and Knud became a foreman. Poul and Søren Hansen became co-owners in 1933. Poul became manager of the furniture factory, while his brother Søren took care of the administration and the exhibition. During the Occupation, a shortage naturally arose, and much of the furniture from the war years was produced with imaginative use of what was available. Among other things. The straps on 1940s furniture are often made of paper. Poul Hansen revolutionized Danish furniture design when he had leading architects of the time design furniture for him. With Arne Jacobsen's molded chair from 1951 was the beginning of an extensive collaboration with the designers of the time, which put Fritz Hansen at the forefront of the Danish Design export wave in the 1950s and 1960s. The production included furniture by Børge Mogensen, Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Mogens Lassen and Ole Wanscher. In 1954, Christian E. Hansen died. In 1955, the company was transformed into a limited company and in the same year Fritz and Søren Hansen became directors (shared management) and members of the board for this. They were directors until 1975. From the 1970s until today, the collaboration with the furniture architects of the time has continued and has, among other things, included Verner Panton, Nanna Ditzel and Kasper Salto, Piero Lissoni, Piet Hein/Bruno Mathsson. In 1982, the Poul Kjærholm collection was taken over. • Bente Hansen Organic Shaped Vase, 2001
    By Bente Hansen
    Located in Valby, 84
Rare and important organic vase by Danish ceramic artist Bente Hansen from 2001 from a batch of 100 pieces this model has number 49 out of 100. This vase is the perfect center piece for any style of interior and fits all style from the typical Scandinavian style of interior to a more modern style of interior to a wabi sabi style of interior. From the earliest youth, Bente Hansen's life and work have contained one obsession: clay, the ceramic form and process of creation. This passion has made her an internationally renowned ceramist whose works are loved by ceramic lovers and collectors of unique items worldwide. Bente Hansen grew up in modest circumstances, as the youngest of two sisters. The father was a trained fine mechanic and worked for the fire service. In the last days of the Occupation, he died in an accident. The mother got work as an office assistant at Gentofte Town Hall and looked after the two daughters until she met engineer Julius Tscherning Jensen in 1950, who became her partner. He added to the home an interest in modern Danish furniture design, music and art, just as he took Bente Hansen to museums, not least on trips to Southern Germany and Austria. During a visit to the maternal grandparents, who lived at the Agricultural College's garden on Frbg. and had a summer house in Avedøre, Bente Hansen's interest in nature and budding life developed. A teacher who was also a painter and sculptor sparked her interest in shaping. From the age of 12-13, she modeled after classic pictures and sculptures and worked with ceramics, where the inspiring role model was Axel Salto. In 1960, Bente Hansen began to study ceramics at the School of Crafts under the demanding leader Richard Kjærgaard...
