Regency Leather Upholstered Mahogany Reclining Armchair, circa 1830

About the Item

A remarkable circa 1830 English, possibly Irish, late regency style George IV; William IV period reclining armchair of large scale having leather upholstered carved mahogany frame, the reclining tufted back with serpentine molded crestrail and carved bellflower motifs at sides atop open sides with bold anthemion carved brackets, the long padded arms ending in scrolled lotus carved terminals either side deep thickly padded seat above concealed molded seatrail pull-out compartment with removable 'gout stool'; the front legs carved with round boss studded collars and tapering lotus leaves on original 'wagon-wheel' brass casters and splayed rear supports. A rare and exceptional chair comfortable for everyday use.
