Set of 2 Modern Lounge Chairs by Warren Platner for Knoll, USA, c. 1973

About the Item

Introducing a set of two authentically vintage "Platner" Lounge Chairs. As iconic as they are visually fascinating this rare set of two was produced in 1973 by the renowned Knoll International Group. Recently restored and reupholstered by our craftsmen this set represents a modern twist on the classic design featuring new Green Kravet Couture Mohair fabric which is vintage-feeling and kind to the touch. The airy base, created by the forging and bending of steel wire required more than 1,000 individual welds which come together to create one of the most endearing designs ever produced by Knoll or any American furniture maker before or since. Warren Platner studied at Cornell University, graduating in 1941 with a degree in architecture. He went on to work with legendary architects Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen, and I. M. Pei before opening his own architecture practice. Platner made notable architectural contributions throughout his career, including the Georg Jensen Design Center and the Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Center, both in New York City. It was his furniture collection for Knoll, however, that earned Platner worldwide renown. Originally introduced by Knoll in 1966, the Platner Collection has become a lasting icon of modern furniture. Painstakingly restored by expert craftsmen who are passionate about Platner and his work this set of iconic Platner lounge chairs has a new lease on life. Perfect for designers and collectors alike searching for an authentically vintage set of Platner Lounge chairs that is ready for a lifetime more of use. With their new green Kravet Couture Mohair fabric, new medium density foam for maximum comfort and restored wire frames this set is truly one-of-a-kind. Make them yours today before they're gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 36 in / 91.44 cm Depth: 26 in / 66.04 cm Height: 30.5 in / 77.47 cm This iconic set of Platner Chairs has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration process and we love the results. The upholstery has been redone in a fabulous, vintage-feeling Green Kravet Couture Mohair and is in showroom condition. The cushions have been replaced with new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. The steel wire frames have received minor repairs such as a number of welds in exact accordance with the original construction. The only wear visible is a small amount of tarnishing and light nicks but showing no bends, missing or broken wires. This ultra-stylish set is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more us thanks to their recent restoration process.
