About the Item

Here we have an original Tomato chair, produced by its original manufacturer ASKO. The Tomato chair was designed as an improvement for the Pastil chair, but specifically to be more stable on water. It followed thus shortly after the first manufacture of the Pastil chair in 1969, being made in 1971. Aarnio achieved the desired improvement by shaping the chair out of three circles with the same diameter. Two form armrests, while the third creates the backrest. The result reminded him of a tomato, where the O’s represent the two armrests. Aarnio’s designs are, besides fun and organic, a combination of functionality and ergonomic comfort. The selected material, fiberglass, makes it possible for the chair to be used both indoor and outdoor and the gel coating gives it a shiny look. Please note that the chair shows signs of use such as scratches in the lacquer and patina that have occurred over many years.
