About the Item

leather executive armchair FK84 designed by danish architects Preben Fabricius & Jorgen Kastholm in 1962. Manufactured by Alfred Kill International, Germany in the 1960ies. A Design classic, highly representational and on a manufacturing standard that is outstanding in it’s time. The seat and back rest are upholstered in leather and are made from plywood. The arm rests are upholstered on top to enlarge comfort and are executed in chromed, bend steel. The arm rests mount the back rest to the seat and allow to slightly feather in seating position, which - next to the wide and comfortable seat - make's this arm chair so highly comfortable. The chromed steel trystar base has a shivel function and further is equipped with it‘s original chromeplated casters and perfectly completes this midcentury office chair. The chair is in overall good condition appropriate to it’s age, with few signs of use and aging with its original black lather upholstery which shows slight fading, few scratches and on the outline it had two small damages. The leather on the seat seems to us has been renewed a while ago, visible due to a few hand stitches on the bottom side of the seat, and further the fabric on the bottom is not the original type used by kill in this decade. Therefore we’re convinced it has been renewed at some point. Overall it is in good vintage condition and will serve you well. The Well-reknown danish architect Jorgen Kastholm and his business partner Preben Fabricius met at the class of professor Finn Juhl at the University in Kopenhagen. Together they opened their studio in 1961 and in the coming decade realized various furniture designs for the German manufacturer Alfred Kill International. Also their collaboration ended after a few years these were highly productive. Convinced of the value of timeless esthetic and a functional design the two Danes here were able to have some of their best designs realized in outstanding manufacturing quality. Amongst these they designed the FK84 series, which is rather rare and has not been reissued ever since.
