Boa Pouf in Sulfur Yellow by Sabine Marcelis

About the Item

The donut-shaped Boa Pouf by Sabine Marcelis is perfectly sculptural, a bold graphic form that interrupts interior landscapes with its faultless chunky geometry. This piece of upholstered occasional furniture is rounded and soft, encased in a seamless outer layer that gives it an air-brushed finish: The smooth shape-knit textile that covers the Boa Pouf is a milestone in technologically innovative furniture making. Boa Pouf is as perfect for perching on, propping up feet, and lounging against as it is for making a sculptural statement and is the ideal expression of designer Sabine Marcelis, whose work is characterized by resonating clear, single notes of absolute material, textile, and color. About the designer. Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer who runs her practice from Rotterdam. Her works can be seen in the field of product design, installations, and spaces characterized by a strong focus on materiality—its pure forms and properties. Applying a strong aesthetic point of view to her designs, Sabine’s collaboration with industry specialists allowed her to mediate in the manufacturing process, using material research and experimentation to achieve new and surprising visual effects. As a result, her designs are true sensorial experiences and not simple static works: the experience becomes the function, with a refined and unique aesthetic.

"Flora" vessel / bowl - cast from solid bronze bowl with wood grain and gold bronze Patina. Inspired by silhouettes found in nature, CHAABAN sought to create a line of unique bronzewares and premium home furnishings. Our collection has been hand-crafted with a specific focus on capturing the details seen in branches, trunks, and barks. Natural edges, grains, splits, and cracks are interpreted and preserved using traditional bronze casting methods, successfully blending art and function with the permanence of bronze. Introduced to the world of design in 2016, Brian Chaaban has spent the past few years curating a collection of premium bronzewares. Pulling inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding his hometown of Los Angeles, his self-titled collection “CHAABAN” focuses on forms, shapes, and details found in nature. “I have always been drawn to the outdoors– whether it be through hiking trails or swimming in the ocean, there is such an indescribably tranquil energy about our natural world.” – Brian Capturing and preserving this natural energy has been the ethos behind each piece in our bronze line, most of which begin from a hand-carved block of wood. Upon perfecting the original model, the piece finds its following form when cast in solid bronze, using a nearly 6000-year-old method known as lost wax casting. Once cast, we hand-patinate each piece until it is then ready to be released into the world for adornment. Artistic inspiration for the collection is drawn from the raw and brutalist styles of Paul Evans and Harry Balmer as well as the modernism sculptures...
