Beautiful, iconic and perfectly executed early walnut Sam Maloof rocker from 1979. A very Special chair with exceptional provenance and in excellent original condition. Signed, dated and with a special carved symbol that was used by the Hand and Spirit Gallery . Maloof made this chair specifically for Joanne Rapp This chair belonged and made for Joanne Rapp the pioneering owner of the The Hand and Spirit Gallery in Scottsdale Arizona in the 1970's. She was an ardent proponent of the craft movement in America, championing many new artists working in different media who went on to national prominence. The archive for this gallery resides at the Archives for American Art in Washington, DC. An Iconic chair for an Iconic person.
