About the Item

Here we have a very rare opportunity, a large set of five Otto Zapf 1967 'sofalette' modular seating elements and a very rare 'Sofalette' corner table in fibreglass Newly upholstered in 100% cotton Canvas by Romo and comes complete with the original and usually missing loose cushions. The high quality thick fibreglass bases are all in good vintage condition produced by the Zapf workshop around circa 1970 The 'sofalette' system is completely modular in that you can rearrange the 5 seating elements and corner table piece into any possible configuration and combination but also to a pair of lounge chairs and a 3 seat sofa The super elegant and minimal sculptural form is fully complemented by the new Canvas fabric, a sculptural form presents itself Otto Zapf began his design career by joining the iconic Braun company in 1955 where he met colleague Dieter Rams, in 1957 they formed their own design firm, 'RZ-furniture Vertriebs GmbH', where they developed the concept to design modular furniture that could be expanded as desired and that you could install yourself and that would be easy to transport, a concept you can see take form with the sofalette series and Ram's later iconic Vitsoe 606 shelving system. Their partnership did not last long with Rams leaving to work for Vitsoe where he produced the afore mentioned iconic 606 modular shelving system much to the annoyance of Zapf who states that he designed the concept of the 606 series in 1960 as a prototype for Braun which he had shown Rams . This is documented in an extensive interview with Zapf conducted with the german newspaper 'Frankfurter Allgemeine' in January 2014. In the early 1960s Zapf started his own design firm and workshop ,'Zapf design' these 1960s designs concentrated on modular seating and lighting, and soon word began to spread around the design world about the creativity and quality of Zapf's work leading to Bobby Cadwallader of Knoll turning up on Zapf's doorstep one day declaring "I wait to buy your business!". Zapf eventually agreed to go and work for Knoll in 1973 where he concentrated on modular office equipment and seating , he soon became a design sensation in the states furnishing the corporate headquarters of IBM, General Motors and CBS. Otto Zapf was on everyone's lips. His "Office Chair" was introduced in 1974 in the foyer of the newly opened World Trade Center in New York.

Seating as Minimalist Sculpture, 4 Elements by Uredat, 1969, Mohair Upholstery
By Klaus Uredat, COR
Located in bergen op zoom, NL
Amazing, museum quality, modular 'CORBI' seating set, composed of four elements, designed by Klaus Uredat for 'COR', Germany, 1969 complete with the original purchase invoice dated 1972. After receiving many requests to do so, we have carefully unpicked and removed the original custom order pop art upholstery and have now recovered the set in a more neutral, high quality mohair upholstery. A rare, beautiful and highly sculptural pure elemental design, the large dimensions of each .Corbi' seating element allow for them to be used equally as either individual lounge chairs or as a modular sofa. This particular set is a must for serious collectors, this set comes complete with the original German purchase invoice from 1972, which also confirms the additional expense of the custom order upholstery, we have carefully unpicked and kept the original upholstery fabric should the buyer wish to retain it for provenance (please see photos 14 and 15 which illustrate the set with it's original upholstery). The sculptural 'Corbi' modular lounge chair was designed in 1969 and only remained in limited scale production for a few years up to circa 1974. Today this super elegant design is both very popular and now extremely difficult to find due to the passage of time and the limited total production numbers so a large set of elements such as this, is really a rare opportunity. Each 'Corbi' element is composed of two independent Minimalist sculptural forms, one base element and one cylindrical seat back. With the base elements positioned end to end, day beds may...

Serge Haelterman Functional Pop Art Modular Seating Jzuz Living Elements Belgian
By JZUZ Livingelements, Serge Haelterman & Steven Brouns
Located in bergen op zoom, NL
Unique and out of production functional seating elements by Belgian designers Serge Haelterman and Steven Brouns. These elements are made of high end foam covered with an elastic coated fabric that can be cleaned easily and feels like a latex rubber. This seating elements can be turned into a sofa, bed or seating island with your own imagination. NIKE purchased several of these JZUZ Elements for their shops in Europe Measures: Green element 82.67inch/210cm x 27.55inch/70cm x Height 27.55inch/70cm Orange element 55.12inch/140cm x 55.12inch/140cm x Height 27.55inch/70cm Orange block element 27.55inch/70cm x 27.55inch/70cm x Height 27.55inch/70cm I taken this text from Serge Haelterman's website: Right after I graduated as an Industrial designer back in 1999 I started a furniture brand together with my friend Steven Brouns. We felt there was a need for a new type of furniture that was able to adjust itself to the ever changing life situations. Hence the name Livingelements. The name JZUZ was conceived because we believed we had to spread the message of this new kind of living. The first elements were a u and a square shaped seating element. They were in fact a deconstruction of a regular sofa. This deconstruction led to a whole range of new possibilities. When combining both elements you could construct all kinds of different 'living' setups. After this followed the room devider...
