About the Item
Our sectionals are great ways to customize your space and create the ultimate lounge spaces.
Since first designing Inheritance Collection, Stephen Kenn has been inspired by the inherent history in vintage military-issue materials. Each piece of vintage olive green military canvas is distinctive and will have unique markings from its long history of use. The foam seat cushions have been wrapped in polyfiber, allowing for a soft and comfortable lounge experience. Sitting atop a blackened steel frame, the piece has support belts featuring Swiss Military style cotton webbing, oxblood leather, and antique brass Buckles.
Our military canvas is a vintage material, and as such has some small imperfections, stamps, lettering, or markings from the soldiers who used them. We celebrate these imperfections and do not consider them to be eligible for warranty claims. There is also shade variation in olives and greens. Exact color matches are not possible.
This variation can be arranged as a 90 degree seating arrangement, a lounge or day bed, as well as a linear sofa with leather ottoman. It is comprised of 3 pieces: 2 Canvas Loveseats with arms on opposite sides and 1 Leather Ottoman.
Every Stephen Kenn piece is made to order through our Los Angeles studio. We create these pieces utilizing a number of small businesses and fabricators in the LA area. We welcome inquiries about custom dimensions or custom material combinations to best fit your space and personal aesthetic.

Stephen Kenn
Favoring used materials that wear well and tell a story, Canadian artist and furniture designer Stephen Kenn aims “to create products worthy of repair.” For instance, making comfortable pillows out of vintage, military-issued shelter halves is one way in which Kenn’s pieces facilitate a conversation as rich as the history that inspires them.
Kenn is a passionate designer and entrepreneur. In his early 20s, Kenn set up shop in Los Angeles and co-created two denim companies before selling them to investors. Kenn then focused on constructing men’s travel luggage through his third company. Once again, he went on to sell the company to investors. He shifted to making industrial-style furniture to match his loft apartment. Kenn took apart a vintage sofa and armchair to discover their inner workings and repurposed them into his designs. Through this experimentation, his fourth business, Stephen Kenn Furniture, was born. His wife, Beks Opperman, handled the business end while Kenn advanced his creative process.
Kenn had access to a large array of military fabrics, which became central to his Inheritance Collection. Along with repurposing the fabrics, Kenn welded rusted steel frames covered in a protective coating. Replica “mule belts,” originally used for pack mules in World War II, complemented the tarnished metal and supported the backs of his sofas.
In 2019, Kenn partially opened his downtown Los Angeles loft to the public as an experiential showroom that holds a collection of his work and favorite items from the past. It is open for community events and overnight stays and houses a popular neighborhood coffee shop.

For all furniture, protection from heat and moisture is crucial to the longevity of the piece. To help prevent scratches, use adhesive felt pads, coasters, placemats, and avoid sliding objects across the surface of the piece when possible.
Lacquer + Paint + Metal Surfaces - Dry dust with a clean microfiber or feather duster. Wipe with a slightly damp microfiber towel and mild cleaner as needed. Wipe dry promptly.
We recommend that you clean with ammonia-free Windex or a mild surface cleaner. Please stay away from bleach, alcohol, or petroleum based cleaners. You may use a general purpose wood cleaner.
Avoid using furniture polish as over time it can accumulate and leave a residue.
Wax + Oil Finish - Dry dust with a clean microfiber or feather duster. Wipe with a slightly damp microfiber towel. Wipe dry immediately. Clean with ammonia-free Windex or a mild surface cleaner.
Stay away from bleach, alcohol, or petroleum based cleaners. Our natural wax and oil finishes will dull over time. Wax or teak oil may be reapplied as needed using a soft white cloth.
Raw Wood - Dry dust with a clean microfiber or feather duster. Use a damp microfiber towel or soft brush as needed.
Do not use any product containing wax or oil to clean.
Outdoor Furniture - Outdoor furniture may require frequent oiling. A cover is strongly recommended for all outdoor furniture. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and/or direct sunlight.
If exposed to rain, allow cushions to air dry completely before putting them back on the frame.
Leather Care - Dry dust with a clean microfiber or feather duster. Wipe with a slightly damp microfiber towel. Do not use cleaning products on the leather. The recommended leather conditioner is Skidmore’s Original Leather Cream.
Marble + Stone - Dry dust with a clean microfiber or feather duster. Wipe with a slightly damp microfiber towel. Wipe dry immediately. For daily cleaning we recommend using Orange Glo and/or Method Stone Cleaner on the marble. All marble and stone surfaces are protected with a sealer. To maintain the overall appearance and protection of the marble or stone, reseal with Miracle 511 Seal & Enhance. It is important to use coasters and clean up moisture immediately on marble and stone surfaces.
