Louise Chaise in White Bronze Over Teakwood Handcrafted in India by Paul Mathieu

About the Item

The renowned designer Paul Mathieu has re-interpreted this classic form. Originating in 16th century France and known as a “Chaise Longue”, or “long chair”, it was adopted by the British and brought to India during “Raj” period. Paul’s low, curvaceous interpretation is a contemporary homage to the traditional Indian craft of metal clad furniture. This elegant piece is hand carved from solid pieces of teak. Pattern-makers trace and cut complex forms that will cover the table from thick sheets of copper, brass or white bronze or silver which can be smooth or hammered. Once the Chaise is joined together, it is meticulously encased in a tight-fitting metal skin. Customization is our specialty. Prices do not include shipping from India (for custom orders) or our MN warehouse (items from stock). That will be additional. Louise Chaise in White Bronze Size- 70" x 24" x 33"H Materials - White Bronze, Teak, Hand-Crafted Please note that moisture in air, sudden change in temperature and natural movement of wood over time causes the metal to wrinkle or bubble up. We use well seasoned, reclaimed teak and high quality marine grade MDF (wherever technically possible) to avoid and delay the above mentioned changes. However a perfect stability of metal cannot be guaranteed. Please note that our smooth finish metal clad pieces will have some unavoidable tool marks. This is proof that everything is done by hand. The smooth finish will not come out like a machine made perfect surface and the master artisan will do their best to make it look as good/clean/stable/perfect as he possibly can. Our hammered finishes are a much safer option if the tool mark scratches are unacceptable. The hammered finishes are also safer against eventual bubbling/wrinkles due to natural forces as mentioned above. We would love to send you some samples before order confirmation so that the finish can be judged and experienced first hand. Buyer Cancellation- The cancellation charge is 25% which increases to 50% if the production is started.

Louise Card Table Metal Clad Over Teakwood Handcrafted in India by Paul Mathieu
By Stephanie Odegard Collection
Located in New York, NY
The renowned designer Paul Mathieu chose the name “Louise” when he created his more feminine version of Louis XV (1730-1760) furniture. The characteristic cabriole leg, curving outward at the knee and inward towards the foot in an "S" shape was born during this period. It is during the same era that English furniture makers produced the Queen Anne and Chippendale style. The curved legs and side rails of this exceptionally elegant table are hand carved from solid pieces of teak. Pattern-makers trace and cut complex forms that will cover the table from thick sheets of copper or silver. Once the table is joined together, it is meticulously encased in a tight-fitting skin of copper or purest silver. The silver used was assayed at 96% purity, which exceeds the minimum standard for sterling of 92.5%. White Bronze, Antiqued Bronze, Brass, Silver and Copper available options of th metal skin. Both silver and copper will tarnish over time. Regular non-abrasive household metal polishes can be used to restore the original finish. Louise Card Table...
