Rare 19th Century Irish famine chair. Beautifully constructed from ash with a lovely washed out colour. The chair is very robust and with a wide seat incredibly comfortable to sit in. An Irish famine chair is a type of Vernacular chair made during the great famine in Ireland (1845-1852). These chairs characterised by their simple and practical design and use of readily available materials. The construction is often robust, reflecting the need for durability during a time of hardship.
