Gilt Brass Chiavari Chair Neoclassical Style
About the Item
Neoclassical style gilt brass Chiavari chair with original claret red velvet upholstery, circa 1955.
The brass has a gilt wash or gold plating giving it an extra rich and refinied appearance.
At the centre of the chair back is an upholstered panel cartouche framed by bold brass sides with notched corners. Attached at the four corners, the back floats within the vertical spindle supports. The result is light & elegant.
The vertical supports of the back are a continuation of the back legs, all in solid brass for strong support.
The front legs have a decorative balluster form similar to the back rest. All four of the legs have a slender tapered profile and terminate in a small button foot. The legs are joined with a straight stretcher making them strong & stable.
The brass seat rails frame the entire upholstered seat on all four sides.
The original scarlet velvet fabric is in fair condition with some marks on the seat back and wear marks in the corners of the seat.
On the back rest there are four brass decorative screws which also allow easy access to change the upholstery. The removable seat easily unscrews from the bottom side of the frame.
