Introducing a rare ladderback side chair designed by the incomparable Torbjørn Afdal for Vamo. Designed and crafted in Denmark in the early 1960's this elegant chair is constructed from solid teak with graceful curves and exquisite woodgrains throughout. Featuring new vintage-feeling forest green upholstery this side chair is ideal for collectors and designers alike searching for the perfect office or accent chair.
Torbjørn Afdal was a Norwegian born designer who graduated from the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1946 and spent much of his career with the legendary Bruksbo Tegnekontor, who for three decades were one of Norway’s leading design offices for quality furniture. Among those who purchased Afdal’s designs were First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and the Japanese Emperor as well as other notable heads of state during the mid-20th century.
His work is characterized primarily by a refined understanding of material and form. Afdal implemented a combination of art and tradition in his work, with a talent for utilizing the natural possibilities of rare hardwoods which is on full display in this splendid ladderback chair.

Save for the new upholstery, this gorgeous ladderback side chair is in original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection! The solid teak frame and legs are in 100% original condition and show only minor nicks (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided) with no deep scratches, gouges or stains present whatsoever.
The upholstery, redone in a vintage-feeling heavy knit forest green fabric is in showroom condition and ultra-thin cushion has been replaced with medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity.

Torbjørn Afdal
Torbjørn Afdal was one of the leading designers at Bruksbo Tegnekontor and in Scandinavia. Afdal became more well known when his furniture was bought by US first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and by the Japanese Emperor. In later years, he was granted the commission to design the parliamentary and chairs and tables to the courthouse in Oslo.

Condition Details: This exquisite desk/side chair designed by Benny Linden has recently undergone a partial restoration process that feature new upholstery. The solid teak frame is in 100% original, vintage condition and shows only minor signs of vintage wear such as light surface scratches and nicks but showing no stains, gouges or other damage whatsoever and the variegated woodgrains of the Burmese teak is absolutely mesmerizing in natural light.
The upholstery, redone in a fabulous, vintage-feeling heavy knit fabric, is in showroom condition and has never even been sat in. The cushions have been replaced with new, medium density foam for maximum comfort.
