About the Item

This pair of early nineteenth century Austrian Biedermeier period walnut and ebonized pearwood chairs features a curved seat back with scrolling sides finished with medallions. The center of the seat backs is finished with a carved drapery motif and is detailed in black and gold along with the medallions. The seats rest on gently curved legs "en sabres" in French or like sabers in English, and are upholstered in a black and gold fabric that mimics the scrolling pattern of the seat backs. A handsome pair, circa 1830.
