About the Item

Pierre Guariche designed the conseil chair for the Belgian furniture manufacturer Meurop in the 1960s. The chair has been newly upholstered in a warm white bouclette fabric. Between 1960 to 1968 Pierre Guariche was Art Director of the Belgian furniture factory. His aim was to create armchairs and furniture for this company which was enthusiastic about the good taste and refinement of French designers. The were The "baby boomers" who were twenty years old at the time are the target group. During the 1960ies Meurop democratizes furniture as a common consumer good. The concept is to massively produce standardized furniture of good taste at low prices with the main requirement: the use of inexpensive raw materials (plastic, metal tubing). This concept was in line with the principles of Pierre Guariche from the start of his career: creating rational aesthetic furniture, produce them in series at reasonable prices, for the greatest number.
