Swedish Neoclassical Style Carved Gilt-Wood & Upholstered Sofa Bench, 19th C.

About the Item

A Swedish Neoclassic style gilt-wood and upholstered sofa bench from the 19th century. This antique sofa from Sweden, approximately 5.75 feet in length, features a rectangular-shaped back with straight crest rail, carved in twisted rope trim motif, framing the upholstered backrest. The arms slope down gently, just beneath the shoulders, and are fitted with upholstered manchettes, and terminate into scrolled knuckles, with the same twisted rope trim. The skirting is straight, and continues the trim as above, and has flower heads carved into the skirt, atop each of the legs. This piece is raised upon seven fluted cylindrical legs. The arm height measures 27.5 inches tall. The gilt-wood finish is older, but not original. Note that the silk upholstery does have some stains, giving an opportunity to refresh this piece with fabric to compliment your decorative style. This 19th century Swedish Neoclassical style sofa will be an elegant and sophisticated addition to any living space within your home or office.
