About the Item

We present the icon of Danish Mid-Century Modern design and a very rare model: the Z-sofa was designed by Danish designer Poul Jensen for the prestigious American manufacturer Selig Furniture from the 1950s. This unique piece is a classic example of Danish modernism, combining functionality with refined form. The sofa's design attracts the eye with its geometric, dynamic Z-shaped armrests, which flow seamlessly into the legs. The sofa's slender frame is crafted from teak in a deep, warm shade of brown, highlighting the natural beauty of the material and the craftsmanship of the joinery. It is upholstered in an original green fabric reminiscent of the 1950s, contrasting with the warm tone of the wood. Due to its museum-quality character, we decided against using new upholstery. The geometric yet visually lightweight structure emphasizes the design's harmony. Thanks to the built-in reclining mechanism, it easily transforms into a functional bed. This sofa is an icon of Danish design, with a dynamic silhouette and unique side profile. The sofa is also a development of the iconic Z Chair. Jensen's designs for Selig combine the minimalism typical of Danish modernism with an American passion for comfort and spacious forms. The sofa aligns with the Danish MCM design aesthetic with its minimalist, functional, yet expressive and powerful form. It's a piece of furniture that not only impresses but also offers comfort, making it an excellent choice for both vintage and contemporary interiors. Poul Jensen was a Danish furniture designer who rose to fame during the golden age of Danish design. He is best known for his collaboration with Selig and for the Z-Chair, also known as the Z Lounge Chair, one of the most iconic examples of Scandinavian modernism. Although not as recognizable as Hans Wegner or Arne Jacobsen, his designs have a lasting place in the history of Scandinavian design. Selig was founded by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler in Gardner, Massachusetts, USA in 1931. In the 1950s, the company grew to become one of America's leading importers and manufacturers of contemporary furniture. The company focused on high-end projects, manufactured in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. Their offer consisted of the simple, elegant forms typical of post-war Danish design. Selig is responsible for introducing the American public to many Scandinavian designers and popularizing the modern, future-oriented interior style that became common in the US in the post-war period. The sofa is in original vintage condition, with minor signs of age. A few small, millimeter-sized abrasions on the fabric. The seat height is 38 cm. When unfolded, the sofa reaches a depth of 93 cm.

Mid-Century Australian Modern Teak Sofa & Armchairs by Parker Furniture, 1950s
By Parker Furniture
Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
This impressive set of sofa and two armchairs was designed and produced by the Australian company Parker Furniture in 1956. Parker has a legacy of creating some of the finest Mid-Century furniture. These eco-friendly seats are no exception. In an elegant, deep design with perfect proportions, there are simple pillows covered with a characteristic designer material in the color of royal blue, which complements the scultured structure of the frame. The cushions can be raised and the pieces have a spring frame. Elegant, aerodynamic arches are embedded in a low-line solid teak frame that creates an ultra-streamlined 20th century classic. Parker reflects the lightness of form present in the best Mid-Century design and this highly organic living-room set by Parker are a great example of a coveted modernist style. Clean lines and a relaxed profile come together to create a comfortable and stylish pair with a timeless feel. The beauty of these elements can be seen in thoughtful details. The sharp angles visible in the armrests and rear slats add sophistication to this forward-looking design. The set is signed with a label on the wooden frame and an insert on the cushions. Sleek low-back style and sophisticated design are examples of Parker's form from the 1950s. Armchair has 75x69x73cm. The height of seat is 42 cm Parker Furniture began as ‘Dagger and Parker’, a partnership formed between craftsman Alf Dagger, and salesman Jack Parker, after the depression era. From humble beginnings, the company quickly grew, making government tender furniture. Originally, the company made mainly traditional style furniture – reproductions of antique or art deco styles. In the mid 1940s, Tony Parker...
