Antique French Provincial Louis XVI Painted Cane Bidet Stool

About the Item

A charming antique French Louis XVI style painted bidet stool (today it would make for a wonderful end table, plant stand or functional stool) Born in Provincial France in the 19th century, having a cream painted solid wood frame with hinged rectangular cane woven seat, opening to cutout that once housed a porcelain chamberpot, rising on turned H-stretcher joined legs. *Please note, at the time of writing this, we have a similarly styled pair of Louis XVI style painted chairs available (shown in the photo) Dimensions: (approx) 17" High, 19.25" Wide, 13" Deep Similar to a close stool (necessary stool - thunderbox), potty chair, bedside night commode or chaise percée, this old fashioned bidet is a wonderful reminder of how the times have changed with modern day hygiene. A fabulous curiosity, in addition to perspective, this bidet is a wonderful way to add whimsical elegance, Provincial warmth and historical depth to any space! Condition: Good antique condition with nicely aged heavily worn distressed chippy paint patina. Retaining original antique character marks and rustic old world European charm throughout. Wear consistent with over 150 years of age and indicative of use, including scattered nicks, scratches, rubbing, and chippy paint finish losses. Porcelain bowl has been lost to time. As photographed. Stable. Structurally sound. Presents well

A stunning French Provincial crème painted chest of drawers commode with beautifully aged original patina and interesting provenance! Exquisitely hand-crafted in France in the late 18th / early 19th century, exceptionally executed in elegant, sophisticated and luxurious King Louis 15th taste, topped with the original rouge red Pyrenees marble top with striking white veining, serpentine-shaped front and molded edge, over a conforming solid wood case fitted with a secret hidden storage compartment and four dovetailed drawers, each with ornate gilt-bronze handles and escutcheons. When you remove the top left drawer, the center panel with faux escutcheon can slide over and reveal a concealed wooden drawer for valuables. Elegantly decorated, the drawer fronts and rounded corner posts adorned with subtle carvings, paneled sides, scalloped apron with hand carved Rocaille shell and scroll motif, rising on short cabriole legs. In the original cream paint finish with distressed chippy paint patina perfection!
