Brutalist Forged Iron + Cognac Leather Stool, France 1960s

About the Item

Beautiful brutalist stool with welded forged iron base and a brown leather seat featuring a gorgeous patina created by time. Brutalism is an architectural current, born in the 1950s in England, seen as the overcoming of the Modern Movement in architecture. The Brutalist current can also be traced to several other artistic fields, such as interior architecture and industrial design. The term originated in 1954 in the United Kingdom (Brutalism) and derives from Le Corbusier's béton brut, which characterizes the "Unité d'Habitation" (1950) in Marseille, and specifically from a phrase found in his Toward an Architecture of 1923: «L'architecture, c'est, avec des matières brutes, établir des rapports émouvants», translated to: "Architecture is about creating touching relationships with raw materials".
