'Caverna' contemporary wooden stool by Brazilian Studio Knót Artesanal
About the Item
Cavernas are the arched structures that, when combined, form the skeleton of a vessel.
These delicately sculpted pieces are the pure embodiment of design, blending the strength and elegance needed to navigate turbulent waters while gliding smoothly across them. Each curve reflects the maritime knowledge passed down through generations, revealing a deep connection to the artisanal tradition.
Our latest collection is a direct reflection of the environment that surrounds us daily and the natural curves that cradle us with the rhythm of the sea. It emerges from the depths of the waters, from the essence of the local Caiçara culture, and from the ancient artisanal tradition that still resonates in the shipyards of Paraty. This singular universe has captivated us with its many hands, interwoven narratives, and forms that inspire our designs, echoing the curves that define the hydrodynamics of maritime hulls.
The flowing design of a caverna immediately evokes the ergonomics of a seat. It was through this exploration that we conceived a new line of seating — chair, stool, armchair, and rocking chair—each one a manifestation of the union between form and function, inspired by the organic curves that define the beauty and efficiency of naval architecture.

Knot Artesanal
Knót (ki-no-ti) is the meeting of design, beauty and simplicity hand crafted in solid hard-woods. It was formed between Brazilian architect Renata Gutierrez (nó) and British woodworker James Rowland (knot), both passionate about the forms, tones and textures of wood. Our focus is on simple lines, quality materials and natural finishes. All of our pieces are handmade using traditional woodworking methods to create timeless contemporary pieces that not only need to be seen but also felt. This takes place in Paraty Brazil, the city in which we chose to live and work, nestled between the rainforest and the ocean.

'Lin' Minimalist Stool in Brazilian Hardwood by Knót Artesanal
By Knót Artesanal
Located in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro
Lin is derived from a clean and minimalist take on a traditional three-legged stool, giving it a thoroughly modern appeal and Scandinavian feel through its brass details and slender appearance. The brass line on the seat marks the join in the wood and as such is different on each making them all unique. Light yet robust it’s a perfect combination of structure and aesthetic.
Made from a range of Brazilian solid hard woods with a natural finish of oil and wax.

Esfera Stool by Rodrigo Ohtake, Brazilian Contemporary Design
By Rodrigo Ohtake
Located in Sao Paulo, SP
The Esfera stool was created by the Brazilian contemporary designer Rodrigo Ohtake, in 2019. The mix of materials is the differential in this series. While wood is used as a seat, a metal plate, thick and curved, raises the first material from the ground in a light way and with minimal contact, both with the floor and with the wood. The structure is made of stainless steel and Cumaru Wood. Definitely a one of a kind and unique piece.
Graduated at FAU / USP in 2009, with a period of studies at the Polytechnic of Milan, Rodrigo Ohtake is always in search of his own architectural style. Passionate about colors and free forms, he collaborated with architects Mario Biselli, Alvaro Puntoni, and Frenchman Patrick Jouin, in addition to working with his father, Ruy, from 2008 to 2016.
In addition to working in the offices, he participated as a curatorial assistant in the exhibitions "Viver na Floresta", curated by Abílio Guerra, "O Coração da Cidade: Invention of Spaces" by Júlio Katinsky...
