About the Item

A refined balance of geometry and elegance defines this pair of Art Deco stools, likely crafted in France during the 1930s. Their clean silhouette and rich materiality evoke the era's quiet sophistication. Design Each stool features a solid construction of darkly polished wood, most probably mahogany, with gracefully curved end panels that rise slightly above the upholstered seat. The verticality of the side elements adds sculptural presence, while the soft curvature introduces a visual rhythm. The stools are topped with thick, lightly padded seats in a neutral, natural-toned upholstery. These benches sit low, suggesting intended use as dressing stools, footrests, or occasional seats in a boudoir or salon. Although unsigned, the form recalls French Art Deco designers like Jacques Adnet or André Arbus, who favoured architectural lines softened by sensual materials. The minimal detailing, pure proportions, and solidity of form point to a refined workshop with a strong grasp of functional elegance. Condition ‍The stools are in good vintage condition with surface wear to the wooden sides, like some scratches, consistent with age and use. The upholstery shows gentle discolouration and light wear, particularly around the edges. Upholstery We have an in-house upholstery atelier - we are happy to help if you wish you re-upholster these stools.
