About the Item
Set of 4 Blue Glazed Ceramic Stools by Habitat, UK 1996
A striking set of four heavy ceramic stools, designed and produced by Habitat in 1996. Each stool is crafted in richly glazed blue ceramic with subtle tonal variations, giving a depth and lustre reminiscent of Japanese indigo pottery.
Why we love them
These stools are not just functional; they are sculptural. Their versatile cube form with softened edges and integrated hand holes on either side makes them easy to lift, reposition, and reconfigure. Place them in a circle for convivial gatherings, snake them in a line for an organic flow, pair them to form a bench, or stagger them back-to-front to create a wave-like installation. Perfect for gardens and terraces, they are heavy enough to stay in place outdoors all year round and are easily cleaned, unfazed by the British weather.
Design significance
Habitat under Sir Terence Conran redefined British interiors from the 1960s onwards, democratising modern design and influencing how an entire nation lived, dined, and entertained. By the 1990s, Habitat continued this legacy, offering design-led pieces like these ceramic stools that combined global craft references with practical contemporary living. Conran’s influence extended beyond furniture into the very culture of eating out and lifestyle retail, shaping the UK’s design consciousness for generations.
Condition
In excellent vintage condition with minor signs of use appropriate to age. No structural cracks. Each stool is heavy, stable, and features hand holes for ease of carrying and placement.

A timeless icon of design this wonderful set of eight model #3107 (also known as the "Series-7") stacking dining chairs in black were designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in 1955. This set are an early production model with a rarely seen registered and numbered metal CAP, April 1964. In the late 60’s Fritz Hansen then changed to the more commonly seen plastic stamped CAP.
The CAP carries the Made in Denmark, the Danish Control FurnitureMakers emblem and the FH logo along with the year. This is important for collectors who are not looking to buy the more usual plastic CAP chairs you find on later production models.
