About the Item

Early version of Stool 967, originally designed by Josef Frank in 1938 for Firma Svenskt Tenn. Crafted from solid mahogany with a rattan seat, this model bears a striking resemblance to the standard 967, differing primarily in the shape of the seat corners. Professedly originally acquired from a former employee of the original manufacturer. Redone rattan seat. The Austrian architect Josef Frank, who was raised in Vienna and educated at the Konstgewerbeschule, embarked on a career that included the establishment of the interior design company Haus & Garten. His interiors were characterized by a playful modernistic aesthetic, with a strong focus on colors, comfort, and coziness. In 1933, due to the increasing anti-Semitism in Austria, he left Vienna and found refuge in Stockholm. There, he quickly forged a successful collaboration with Estrid Ericson and Firma Svenskt Tenn. Despite arriving in Sweden in his fifties, Josef Frank is still regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Swedish modernist movement.
