About the Item
Upcycled Boiler part metal stool by Girona-born designer Marta Torrent.
In the “Urban Mines” project, Marta Torrent and her team identify and collect materials discarded in urban areas such as metals, plastics, textiles and electronic components. These materials are considered “urban mines” due to their potential to be reused. The collected materials undergo creative transformation processes, becoming products of innovative design. This includes the creation of furniture, decorative objects and art, among others. "Urban Mines" is based on the principles of circular design, seeking to close the life cycle of products. Every stage of the design and production process is planned to minimize waste and maximize reuse. The resulting products of "Urban Mines" are not only functional but are also high-quality objects made from discarded materials.
Marta Torrent Boix, product designer and maker, currently lives in London where she has created this project, combining her passion for handcrafted metalwork with a sustainable perspective. Using a photographic archive, she documents the growing problem of electronic waste and explores its reuse. The exhibition culminates with her participation in the Entorns artist residency.
