Very Rare and Important 19th Century Wingback Windsor Spindle Armchair in Ash

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning early 19th century English extra large, Wingback Windsor armchair in ash. I have seen thousands on Windsor armchairs in my time, this is the only one that has been shaped like a porters wingback armchair, its in ash, it has the original finish and the stretchers are nicely turned. Size wise its around 10-15% larger than a standard high back Windsor chair This has been lightly cleaned waxed and polished, the frame has been checked and secured, it is in lovely condition throughout. Dimensions Height:- 122cm Width:- 56cm Depth:- 64cm Seat height:- 46.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses. CONDITION Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

Rare Child's Windsor Armchair. Made predominantly of yew wood and ash with a figured elm seat. Simple turned legs over "Crinoline" shaped stretchers. Beautiful color and a deep patina. Made in Buckinghamshire, England circa 1820. A rare and exceptionally well-preserved child's Windsor armchair, crafted in Buckinghamshire, England circa 1820. This charming and finely scaled example exemplifies early 19th-century English vernacular design, made predominantly of richly figured yew wood and ash, with a beautifully grained elmwood seat carved from a single plank. The hooped back is flanked by hand-turned spindles, flowing gracefully into shaped arms supported by balustar-turned arm supports. The seat is deeply sculpted and retains a warm, timeworn patina, showcasing the natural beauty of the elm.
