18th Century German Baroque Chest

About the Item

Original German baroque round-lidded chest from the 18th century. Made of solid oak wood and richly decorated with hand-forged fittings. Monogrammed with ‘BLSG’ and the year 1798. The dovetailed oak body stands on a curved sawn-out base with slightly tapering walls, attached mouldings and a domed lid. All three sides and the lid are richly decorated with hand-forged fittings, including the drop handles on the narrow sides and a large monogrammed key plate. The chest can be opened with the original lock and key. Video available. Please just send a message! Inside is the classic compartment on the right-hand narrow side. Dimensions Height: 68 cm / 26.77 inch. Width: 127 cm / 50 inch. Depth: 52 cm / 20.47 inch. As with painted furniture from the period (version with monogram), the iron fittings, or the monogram with the year, may have been renewed by the new owners (married couple) upon inheritance and thus the origin of the chest may be even older. Very good authentic condition with slight signs of wear due to age. The rear plinth has been replaced over time. Waxed surface.
