About the Item

This German oak chest from the 17th century is a fine example of early modern craftsmanship, combining solidity with decorative refinement. The front is constructed with heavy, richly molded panels, featuring pronounced octagonal motifs that create a strong sense of rhythm and relief. What makes this piece particularly special is that the lock, key, and all original ironwork have been preserved intact – a rarity that greatly enhances its authenticity. The oak has developed a beautiful light warm-brown color with a deep luster and rich patina, built up through centuries of careful use and maintenance. In our workshop, the chest was gently cleaned and treated with a fresh protective wax layer, ensuring the natural beauty of the oak remains fully visible while providing preservation for the future. Originally, chests of this type were used for storing household linens, valuables, or important documents. Today, thanks to its robust construction, original details, and glowing patina, this piece stands as both a functional storage item of its time and a tangible witness to German domestic culture and craftsmanship of the 17th century.
