Small Antique German solid blackened oak chest with intricate carvings.

About the Item

This exquisite antique chest, crafted from solid European summer oak, dates back to circa 1900 and originates from the rural region of Thuringia, Germany. The front of the chest is richly decorated with intricate carvings, featuring two carved panels separated by a decorative motif of stacked coins. At the center of the panels is a stylized wind rose, framed by detailed moldings. The chest stands on a convex-concave sawn plinth and is topped with a simple, sleek lid. The dovetail joints, prominently visible, showcase the craftsmanship involved in its creation. Notably, the chest was designed without a lock and has never had one. Recently restored in our workshop, the chest has been meticulously cleaned, stained in a deep black hue, and lacquered to preserve its beauty. It is in excellent, sturdy condition, clean, and ready for use.
