19th Century Louis XV Style Dainty Mahogany Bookcase, Stamped

About the Item

We present you this rare and charming 19th century, Louis XV-style small open bookcase, known as a 'bibus' in French. It has graceful curves on its front and sides and boasts a 'Brèche d'Alep' marble top, elegantly encircled by a gilded bronze molding. The two shelves are decorated with a tasteful gilded bronze trim, adding a touch of sophistication to the piece. One of its standout features is a drawer that gracefully follows the contours of the bookcase, almost like a theater stage designed to showcase your books and other decorative items that you may store in there. Gilded bronze elements, including decorative drops, feet, lock entries, and lamp bases, contribute to the overall sense of luxury exuded by this unique piece of furniture. It is constructed using oak, and the bronze elements are expertly secured, attesting to the exceptional craftsmanship of this work, created by the highly regarded cabinetmakers of the Rue Faubourg Saint Antoine in Paris. The shelves can be adjusted using rack supports, and it comes with a drawer key. The back of the piece bears the stamp of L. Gueunieres, the cabinetmaker workshop by whom this bookshelf was made.
