About the Item

Inspired by mid-century modernism, Floe is made from solid hardwood using real joinery. With its low profile, Floe will fit nicely under a window by the wall, or against the back of a sofa in the middle of the room. Not all available pieces are in stock. Please allow 4 weeks for fabrication, and then 4 weeks for white glove delivery. Please inquire if you are interested in obtaining Floe made from a wood species different from what is currently available. 68" W x 28" H x 11" D The story behind Floe: A few years ago James needed a low-profile bookcase to fit under a pair of tall windows. He wanted to use as little material as possible for the upright members, while still providing strength, and realized this meant orienting the vertical pieces at 90 degrees to each other. And minimizing material meant that the vertical pieces would be narrower at the top and bottom and fatter in the middle. It turns out that the visual result of these engineering constraints is pleasing to the eye. That first bookcase needed to be so short that there was no room for legs. These got added in later iterations.
