About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and very rare Victorian rosewood and mahogany Library breakfront bookcase with Hobbs & Co locks and original keys This is a very good looking and well made piece, rare to find in rosewood and mahogany, clearly a custom commission. The shelves are all height adjustable and removable, all the locks are stamped Hobbs & Co, you have one small key for the side cabinets and one larger key for the middle cupboards The cabinet comes with two original paper labels to the back which both are stamped H.G Satchel Esq 19/7/68 which one would assume is 1868. We also have a sales receipt from an Antiques shop selling the cabinet in 2008 This is a breakfront Library bookcase meaning the middle protrudes further than the sides, it’s a nice way of breaking up what is a large piece of furniture. The top cornice is removable, the main body can by divided into three pieces and the base is one solid piece, all for ease of transport We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, there will be normal age related patina marks here and there, mostly it’s a very fine piece in sublime condition Dimensions Height221cm top to bottom, the base is 65cm, middle section 145cm and the top cornice is 11cm Width 214.5cm Depth 42cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
