About the Item

Set of 3 Monolith Bookends by Turbina Unique Piece Dimensions: D 17 x W11 x H12cm/ D18 x W12.5 x H10 cm / D 17 x W21 x H10.5 cm Materials: Cast Stone, Brass Stone has been fundamental in material and spiritual development of human beings since their beginnings and, consequently, it has been charged with symbolic and social values that transcend its own materiality. We like to believe that this fundamental circumstance, that stone has been the first ally of human beings in their confrontation with the natural environment, has left a deep imprint in our genetic and cultural memory. Lifting up a stone. Raw stones had a very symbolic meaning for ancient societies, it was believed that the rough and natural stones were the dwelling place of spirits or gods. The act of lifting them, borrowing Oteiza's concept of the struggle against gravity, consecrates the voice of the primitive human over a nature that weakens and threatens him, a challenge to the normal world that keeps the stone firmly stuck to the ground. Turbina is an art and design studio located in Barcelona and focused on the creation of pieces, objects and machines that revolve around the concepts of time and movement. Through our work, we try to give other answers to the logical and transcendental difficulties the very idea of time presents. We respect the materials own language, we select them for their implicit symbology and we explore they’re possibilities comprehending they’re nature. Manufactured by ourselves in a slow and thorough process.
