About the Item
The works of the artist Karim Rashid, of Egyptian origin, are aimed at conveying his heritage and personal sensibility through the use of bold lines and glossy lacquer finishes in primary colors. Zag is a minimal bookshelf, and Rashid expresses, "There is always an extraordinarily powerful beauty in minimal objects, but I feel the intense need to add elements to my designs that are alluring, lavish, and at the same time human." In its dynamic form, Zag maintains the functionality of a bookshelf. "I've never liked having books in plain sight even though people love to display them, so I created a graphic pattern to apply to the sides, which appears continuous or hidden depending on the perspective. Both the books and the design are visible from the front. From a lateral view, only the volumes can be seen."
The composition involves two elements juxtaposed with each other to highlight the irregular shape that characterizes the individual element, creating dynamic compositions. The exterior finish is in American walnut essence, while, in contrast, the interior is in glossy laminated purple, a color also reflected in the exterior decoration.
