“Boulle” Marquetry Sideboard, Napoleon III period – Mid-19th century

About the Item

Elegant Napoleon III period entry-level piece of furniture featuring magnificent "Boulle" marquetry, named after Charles-André Boulle, master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV, who made this technique famous, using chiseled brass inlay on a tortoiseshell background. This ornamentation is found in various places, notably in the upper part, on the front, and on the uprights, always on a black background of blackened pearwood, thus providing a beautiful contrast. The chiseled brass inlays form intertwined volutes, foliage, and arabesques. This piece of furniture opens with a door that pulls from the right, composed of four concave elements in the corners: these are separated by chiseled bronze fittings, one of which is equipped with a key for opening. The lock is functional. The oval-shaped motif in the center features a substantial bronze molding, decorated with flowers accompanied by a pearl motif. The mahogany interior is structured with two shelves of the same wood, adjustable on a rack. Furthermore, this high-quality piece of furniture is enhanced with numerous bronzes, including sculpted siren-shaped trim pieces at the top of the uprights, flower-shaped trim pieces for the trim pieces, and also in the half-round corners. Two moldings of the same alloy embellish the upper portion. A third molding festooned with petals adorns the base along its overhang, while its perimeter, like that of the half-round corners, is finely accented with brass fillet inlays on blackened wood. This piece is topped with an original veined white Carrara marble in perfect condition, which adds an additional sparkle to the ensemble. This exceptional bicentennial piece of furniture will undoubtedly add a sumptuous touch to your home. ********** Period: Napoleon III, mid-19th century Certificate of authenticity provided.
